University of Portland – Swindells Hall

This award-winning three-story, 42,000 square foot Interactive Laboratory Building houses the Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Environmental Science departments and includes nine teaching labs, three research labs, three greenhouses, two environmental growth rooms, a computer lab room, a live animal room and ten faculty offices.  Swindells Hall was designed to be a significant example of an “environmentally responsible” building. Energy efficient architectural, mechanical and electrical alternatives were researched and incorporated into its design, resulting in a building that is 50% more efficient than Oregon’s energy code.  Project cost: $8 million.  Role:  Construction Administration (Soderstrom Architects – David Kennedy)
